Pontremoli,
the statue-stele e the "Bancarella" prize |

Pontremoli
area is interesting for any kind of tourism, from culture
to sport tourism. Pontremoli itself offers a number of exhibitions,
among which the "Museo delle the Statue Stele"; this
latter hosts the Statue Stele, unique prehistoric sculptures crafted
by the ancient inhabitants of this region before Roman expansion.
Additionally, the town offers a series of churches from different
periods, full of important pieces of art. Among them, San Nicolò's
church, Santa Maria del Popolo and San Pietro.

Many
bridges and, above all, many villas are just unforgettable: palazzo
Damiani, palazzo Pavesi and a series of "palazzi" Malaspina
are real masterpieces of neo-classical and baroque style. It is
also possible to exploit the countryside for hiking, fishing and
gaming. In particular, Pontremoli's territory is crossed by the
G.E.A. path number 00 (Grand Excursion through the Apennines);
for those somewhat less trained, the Lunigiana Trekking follows
some ancient (and still steep) country roads.

As
far as fishing is concerned, the streams in this area abound with
the famous fario trout; the fishing season goes from spring to
late autumn. Not only rivers are good for this sport, though:
part of the Lago Verde is as a sport-fishing venue, hosting some
local and regional competitions.

If
you don't like swimming in the sea, you can do it in the Magra
river, one of the cleanest Italian rivers; until a few kilometres
from its mouth it doesn't cross any industrial center, so that
its waters are perfectly clean. Other centres that can serve as
a base for excursions are Arzelato, Montelugo, Cervara, Baselica,
Dozzano and Guinadi.
