  Licciana Nardi, Apella and Borgonuovo

Licciana Nardi is located in the higher part of Val di Magra, along the Tavarone river; this latter used to be a very important communication line through Lunigiana, towards the Lagastrello pass. The area is quite flat, or moderately hilly, green and quiet: a nice place for those who love peaceful places. It is also rich in paths and it is suitable for hiking or mountain.

Licciana is characterised by its simple and still elegant architecture: an example is the town hall, once a stronghold of the Malaspina family and then modified into an elegant palace. Its beautiful structure is perfectly preserved and it features a magnificent.

Noteworthy are also the Castello di Piano and the church of San Giacomo, standing respectively by the river and on the Town Square. In the neighbourhood there are a number of interesting villages: Apella, Borgonuovo, Pontebosio and Panicate are medieval towns; Monti features a castle and a "Palazzo del Poderetto"; Bastia features a beautiful Malaspina palace.

Apella
Apella lies at the foot of the Apennines, just above the Tavarone river. This town used to control trade and communications through the valley, with the help of the nearby village Taponecco. Not far from Apella there is Tavernelle, typical little village whose economy was based on trade. In the vicinity, the XV century Convento (Friary) dell'Annunziata dei Servi di Maria is worth a visit.

Borgonuovo
In Borgonuovo municipality there is Terrarossa, little center located between the Tavarone and the Civiglia rivers. It hosts a XVI century castle, a church devoted to San Giovanni and a number of palaces once belonging to the powerful Cocchi family. In the neighbourhood, Castelletto, Masero and Casigliana are very interesting villages; this latter, in particular, features a old church with a Romanesque apse from XIII century. Not far from it, the visitor can enjoy a beautiful view from the Torre del Nocciolo (Hazel Tower).
