The
territory in Bagnone Commune is rich in naturalistic and
cultural attractions. The medieval village, still perfectly preserved,
appears suddenly out thick green forests of pine trees, holm-oaks
and oaks. A number of paths take into the woods, along the river
that gives the name to the town. The most interesting buildings
are: villa Ruschi-Noceti and a cylindrical tower; in the lower part
of the town there are also some interesting arcades (via della Repubblica)
and an old marketplace.

In
the neighbourhood there are some interesting castles and towers,
dominating the green slopes of the surrounding hills. The most important
of them is in Castiglione del Terziere, one of the best preserved
villages in Val di Magra. "Terziere" was added to the
village's name when the little town was annexed to the "pars
terziaria", that is to the third part of Alberto Malaspina
di Filattiera's feudal possessions. The castle, built in early medieval
times, is still intact. Inside there are many rare pieces of furniture
and paintings perfectly restored.

The
castle also hosts the Center for Classical Studies Nicolò
V, and a private library with over twenty-thousand volumes. Also,
in Castiglione there is the Museo del Territorio which illustrates
the long story of the Valle. Finally, in the last few years it was
founded the "Circolo Cosmopolita di Castiglione del Terziere"
(Cosmopolitan Club of Castglione), meeting point for architects
from all over the world, specialised in castle restoration; many
of their projects are put into practice in the Val di Magra and
in the surrounding regions.
