Tresana commune moved its administrative center and City Hall to Barbaresco, once a small village but now a large, thriving center. Surrounded by a green countryside, Tresana strikes one's attention with its small dimension and for being perched on the top of a hill.

The village is dominated by the remains of a square tower and of a castle, built at the time of the Longobards (VII-VIII centuries). A net of little country roads, from which it is possible to see the Apuane Mountains in their splendor, crosses the surrounding area. Not far, over the bridge on the Magra in proximity to Noveggiola, lies Aulla territory, rich in naturalistic beauties and tourist itineraries and irrigated by the streams Peno and Osca.
