Bagnone
Area was inhabited since prehistory, although we hear about
it only after VI-VII century a.C., when trade develops in the
area and in the Appenninic region. The first masters of Bagnone
were the Malaspina family, who ruled over the village with ferocity.
After them, the Visconti masters of Milan held the power for a
short period, until the Florentines took over the town, interested
in a passage towards north across the Apennines.

Starting
from XV century, under the rule of the Florentines, Bagnone experienced
three centuries of peace. Intense trade with the north and the
south brought prosperity to the town, which knew a period of urban
expansion and architectonic innovation; among the new buildings,
noticeable are the arcades along what is now called "via
della Repubblica". Because this prosperity lasted such a
long time, Bagnone was enriched by a number of monuments from
different times; it thus became a gallery of different styles
and one of the most interesting spots in the Valle.
