Val
di Magra Events
|
|
| |
The
Val di Magra boosts millenary culture and traditions, which
reflects into a great number of happenings all over the year.
One of the most peculiar events is the Maggio ("May")
that brings alive ancient traditions of villages and towns in
the Valle. People dressed up in medieval fashion engage in (nowadays
fictitious) duels in the name of Faith, Honour and Love.

Also,
the Valle hosts modern events of international renown; among
them, the Premio Bancarella (Bancarella Prize) in Pontremoli
with the Bancarellino brothers, the Cover of the Year, the Bancarello
Sport (sport journalism prizes). On the other hand, Sarzana
hosts the Carena Prize for poetry and journalism, while Licciana
is nown for the Lunigiana Storica Prize.

Rich
in history, the Val di Magra offers many antiquarian exhibitions;
the most famous is the Mostra Nazionale dell'Antiquariato ("National
Antiquarian Exhibition") which takes place each year in
Sarzana. Less prestigious -but surely more affordable- is the
Soffitta nella Strada ("the Attic on the Road"), on
the roads of Sarzana and Bocca di Magra. Sport lovers can be
interested in the Giro della Lunigiana ("Lunigiana Tour"),
cycling event which takes place each September and gathers bikers
from all over the world.

Those
with an interest in horses may follow the Traversata dell'Appennino
a Cavallo ("Apennines Horse Crossing"), which leaves
in May from Aulla; alternatively, they may want to visit the
Rassegna Interregionale Equina ("Inter-regional Horse Fair"),
during the third week of September in Comano.
