The
hamlet of Villafranca, despite the destruction of several
architectural masterpieces during World War II, still preserves
monuments of great prestige. The Church of San Francesco with
its cloister and the convent, which now hosts a scientific superior
school, were restored following the antique structural layout.
Only a few ruins are what is left of the Malaspina castle, but
you may also visit the Church of San Giovanni. Very interesting
to see is the Lunigiana Ethnographic Museum found at the beginning
of the hamlet. Located inside an arrangement of old mills where
many objects representing the customs, habits and rituals of
the popular culture of this area are gathered.
