Bolano
and the Episcopal influence |
|
| |
The
town of Bolano has been very influenced by the dominance
of the Luni Bishops. Infact, its actual urbanistic structure
was given by the bishop of Fucecchio, Enrico, in the 18th century.
In the centuries that followed, the sacred buildings have always
been cured and beautified with maximum commitment and dedication.
The center of the town surrounds the Pieve (parish) and it extends
into groups of disorderly houses and small narrow streets. We
of course suggest a visit to all the religious worship and encounter
areas considered sacred.

The
Santa Maria church, in roman-gothic style, stands out for
the generous amount of marble added to its structure between
the 16th and 18th century. Following this period, the church
was further beautified with new altars and portals. Inside,
among other things, still preserves are various particular
aspects of the antique temple such as the organ pipes. The
actual municipality office was once the home to the Brotherhood
Oratory of San Antonio, palace dating back to the 16th century
which has a wonderful crown colonnade and ceilings.
